Yes, Linden is annoying in many ways, but this just adds to the reality of the story (for me anyway!).
I have met many people in real life who have accomplished great things (ok, maybe not Sunbane-ending, but you get the idea!), and like the rest of us they can have daft habits, paranoia, low-self esteem, egotism....
One of the things Covenant finds hard to deal with is the absolute Nobility and Honour of the people of the Land, as we just don't have such seemingly infallible people in our world.
Linden comes from our world and therefore suffers from the same stressed-out post-industrial ills that afflict most our society.
As TC points out in LFB, we call nature "Scenery", a pleasant thing we can mostly do without. We respect each other very little, and our world even less.
Add to that her traumatic experiences (which like many "real" people she buries inside instead of dealing with), and she's not gonna be the most predictable person around!
Yes, I know it's not as bad as being a Leper, but I found Covenant just as frustrating in the First Chronicles.
I just don't know why we have to single her out:
The Haruchai can be Really annoying with their one word answers and with-holding of information sometimes.
The Lords seem to dither quite a bit, and make some odd decisions.
Elena really thinks it would be second time lucky for Kevin? Doh!
The Elohim (even the nice ones) live so far up their own backsides that I wanted Vain to kick their aloof heads in (he could take them if he had some Ur-viles to back him up!).
Amok is very cheeky (and we know Kevin made his wig just so he had something else to do other than smirk).
The Clave: Hello! Your leader has red eyes and makes blood sacrifices!
The Ramen disliking the Bloodguard is only 'cos they're jealous (get over it!).
The Masters keep the people ignorant so they have something to do other than talk to themselves.
But none of them merit hatred, it just takes too much energy to maintain!
One reason I liked Foamfollower so much was that his main response to unpleasant situations was laughter! I did that so many times when I could see a character being stupid, as that's my usual response in real life!
I must point out that the main object of my humour is myself, and it amuses me a lot that this was meant to be a quick post with no rambling!
