duke wrote:Well, Avatar summed it up very well. I'm reading it on recommendation from my father in law. He reads heaps, and I asked him for a list of his favourite novels, and in amongst "Lord of the flies" and "1984" and "Lolita" is "Remains of the Day". In other words highly recommended.

Loremaster, you should definitely check it out. :)

I will do! Thanks Duke and Avatar!

About 100 pages in S. King's Bag Of Bones
and already I am finding it boring.
And I like most of his books...
Spoiler
(but like Dean Koontz better.)

I prefer King myself Cheval, but not so keen on his newer stuff.

Didn't enjoy Bag of Bones really.

(You won't regret it LoreMaster.)

Bag of Bones has a shocker later on that you won't find boringm, Cheval. I don't consider it one of King's more riveting works, either, but I was stunned when this plot development occurred. :o

THE PALACE by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. The Crusading Vampire meets Lorenzo de' Medici (good) and Savonarola (mad). As always from this author, intensely involving.

Ok, dont laugh everyone, and I'm really sorry for putting this in the "General Literature Discussion", but I've just started reading "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown.

I know, I know, but it was a Christmas present from one of my sisters, and my birthday is coming up soon, so if I want her to get me some more books, I've gotta suck it up and read it.

Should evoke some funny faces from work colleagues when I drop it on my desk tomorrow...

I just finished re-reading The Joy Luck Club. I find it such an interesting book - I love the stories of each mother-daughter pair.

I have been reading The Mermaid's Chair over Tam's shoulder on and off, while I've never read her bestselling The Secret Life of Bees-I have to admit that Kidd is an extremely gifted writer.

the Foreigner series, by C.J. Cherryh, one of the best science fiction writers of all time, imo. her Chanur series is a MUST read for any fans of science fiction/fantasy.

I just finished Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Its wildly implausible, hyper-plotted, rollercoaster of action, myth, religion, science, and cheesy dialogue. There are a couple of very good speeches in amongst the action - Brown can be quite eloquent when he tries.

I must say one sentence in the book had me on the floor laughing, as a character entered a room he wrote "The room was unspecial." Unspecial?!?! hehe :)

The da Vinci code is much better though, more evenly paced and just a little less implausible. All in all, Angels and Demons is an entertaining page turner, and nothing more.
