It's easy. Everything I think and feel and believe and perceive all make up my identity. Including the knowledge that I have an identity that is made up of my thoughts and feelings. This identity is "the individual".

If you cease to be aware of yourself as an individual, then you are no longer that individual. In which case you are no longer you.

If (big if), any part of you survives death, it's only relevant if a part of your consciousness is aware of the fact.

Thanx for the welcome, Avatar! :D

Ego is something I think about a LOT (especially in front of the mirror ;) )
because it's the very crux of our existence, our mortality, our experiences.

Zaphod Beeblebrox put it very well:
If there's anything more important than my ego around here, I wannit caught & shot now!

I also believe that ego is the root of all evil. But that's probably a threadbuster so I'll resist the urge to bang on about that here!
Words like 'finance' bore me,
Interest in the world of cash ignores me...
Only when I hunger does it grab me,
Only when I borrow does it stab me...

Haha, threads here are surprisingly malleable and resistant.

Ego can very well be the root of, if not all "evil," at least much of it.

But then, I suppose it depends how we use the word. Ego in the sense of self-importance wuld be. But ego in the sense of identity preserving...well...can still be, but less probable I think.
