Heh, just found this thread myself.

"Stutty" goes back to my days as a player in the MMOG "City of Heroes." CoH is a MMOG where you create a superhero and run about Paragon City beating up on bad guys. My hero concept was a ninja robot desperately designed by Bosch engineers under siege by a band of "Clockworks," a brand of CoH baddies, at a research facility in Stuttgart, Germany (where I did and do live.) Yes, the concept was tongue and cheek. His name was Der Stuttgarter.

After joining the greatest Supergroup ever, EuroCore, it got shortened to Stutty mostly because Der Stuttgarter was just too damn long to type in the chat window.

I miss the days of CoH a bit. As fun as the game was though, it's the EuroCore people I miss most.

I, too, just found this. Desperately looking for something to fill the next almost three years, so searching the immense forums list. If you have read the TC Chronicles, you don't need an explanation for my nick, Rocksister. The Giants are, by far, my favorite characters, in particular, The First of the Search from the Second Chronicles. She's my nick and her quote is my sig line. When the Starfare's Gem Giants appeared in the 2nd Chrons, I was enamored. They have got to be some of the greatest characters ever created in fantasy literature. Gosh, our world seems so impoverished when you meet folks like that in books. I feel so poor.
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

I took my name from the quote that appears beneath my posts, because to me more than anything else SRD ever wrote that was his most significant piece of wisdom, also the watch is not the only place I use it. About 5 years ago I started a little band in my current home town and named the band Something Broken because it was comprised of members of other bands that had broken up. We were all unhomed either through rejection, or perhaps destiny, regardless we are now THE BAND in our town , and all thanks to those who had previously dismissed or broken us. I now know the quote to be a statement of fact, the only way to have our revenge on those who rejected us, was to give them back Something Broken.

My first online name was derived from a nickname I picked up in the USMC (Marine Corps), Bear.

When I joined Compuserve I choose BR Bear (Big Round Bear) as I choose to hang out in a place called The Bear Cave. I later found out that Bear names had a different meaning related to big hairy gay men posing in "Bear" magazine to many on the internet. [Not that there's anything wrong with that as Jerry Seinfield says, but it is not who I am.]

So when I ventured out of Compuserve to other online places, decided I needed a different name.

At the time I was reading and really enjoying Dan Simmons, Hyperion series, but didn't really like the name Hyperion and didn't want to be called Hyper. So I choose Endymion from Raul Endymion the character in the 3rd and 4th books of the series. I liked Endy much better.

Later, I started researching the origins of Endymion and found the greek mythology story about Endymion, a handsome shepherd boy who fell in love with Artemis/Diana and she with him. She stopped driving the moon across the sky at night to spend time with Endymion which angered Zeus. So he gave her a choice. Endymion could either die or sleep forever. So she made the choice that he sleep forever and she now cries as every night as she drives the moon across the sky in her chariot and looks down upon him.

Cool name, Endy! I'm a huge fan of mythology. I've been Athena other places on the web, and may still again, but here in this incarnation I am Wyldewode. :)

And Mr. Broken. . . I enjoy your username! Sweet revenge about the band too, hmm?

I think the name "ControlFreak" came about because I really liked the the song "Control" by Puddle of Mudd. I just sort of stuck the 'freak' part on the end. :P

Anyway, that's what I've gone by for the last five years. It often gets shortened to 'CF'.

I really enjoy Ancient Greek history and Brasidas was the name of a brilliant Spartan general; I thought that all the TC names would be well and truly taken by now.

Obviously the White Gold in my name is a reference to Covenant. Ark on the other hand is my initials. White Gold Ark happens to be my Screen Name just about everywhere. :D

Boy, Vain. We might be long lost cousins. I almost picked Severian too but didn't want to "mix & match" as it were.

As for me, I chose Andy Kalish as a username because ... well ... my name is Andy Kalish. [Note to self: Get some creativity.]

Add me to the considered Severian list, but I was actively reading the Simmons, Hyperion sequels at the time so went with Endy.

(I think I posted this somewhere else a long time ago.) Wayfriend is my real last name, give or take a letter, translated from Elvish to English.

Part of my original username here was a translation of my real-life last name from English to Quenya (Elvish). . . so we definitely have something in common, Wayfriend! :P

My username has stuck with me since I first got online in the mid-nineties, and it's as simple as an old Dwarf name that I used back in the old-school D&D RPG'ing days. I made it up myself, but it's maybe a bit too close to Tolkien's "khazad" to be original. :)

I think we had/have a member called Severian though but I think it's a banned name for some long forgotten reason

But I agree, good characters always stick so Steerpike from Gomenghast would also have been a good pick.

Just in case you guys don't know, you can change your nicks in case you decide on a new one

Perhaps Jonas or Ultan would remember the reason. If not ... :whip:
