Best/Fav Wizard/Sensai/Teacher Role?
Moderator: I'm Murrin
My favourite wizards are SRD's Mhoram, and Sparrowhawk (from ursula Le Guin's earthsea series).
I don't like the Sensei/teacher type of wizard, and one of the many good things about those two is that they do not presume to instruct or train others, they have the Lorestat and the school of Roke for that.
They also both have a sense of humour and modesty.
Sparrowhawk particularly impresses because he has a happy and fulfilling life after he loses all of his powers.
Mhoram is particularly impressive becuase he trust other people and does not arrogantly believe he is a world saviour, which, paradoxically, helps him to save the world.

Though, not wizard like, He still had some magical talent...
He saved Covenant's ass more than anyone in the series.

I was going to say Socrates from Way of the Peaceful Warrior, but it seems like I already did (and to answer Danlo's old question, yes, I enjoyed it).
Thinking about Wizards, though, I'd say a few of my favorites are Drusas Achamian from Bakker's Prince of Nothing books, Quick Ben, and (though I hate to admit it because the last 50 books of the series have almost killed any of enthusiasm for the earlier novels, which are themselves a guilty pleasure) Pug/Milamber from Raymond E. Feist's Magician series.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
