Hi, I'm new...

Post by DulcyW »

I just joined Kevinswatch but don't really know where to start here. I read The first and second chronicles back when they came out, and then re-read them before starting the last chronicles when I discovered them last year. I just finished AATE yesterday, having no idea that it wasn't the final book! I guess I needed to still feel connected somehow, so here I am. Any suggestions?

Be Welcome to the Watch, Dulcy.
Be Well Come and True.
Nice to have another Watcher from the Denver area.

Since you have finished AATE, feel free to jump in anywhere as you won't need to be cautious of spoilers. There is a hidden forum for posts about AATE; you can find the instructions on how to request access to it here.

The Watch is more than being about the chrons; even though it is the official message board forum for SRD it is more than about him and his works. Explore, review, and jump in. You will find your niche here.

Again, welcome!

Hi DulcyW! Welcome to the Watch! This is a good place :) .

As to where to start, the Covenant topics are fairly well sign posted. Be careful not to drop any Last Chronicles spoilers in the First and Second Chronicles Forum. Also, used to be you had to sign up to view the AATE forum, but I'm not sure if that's the case any more. There's a chapter-by-chapter dissection of AATE starting in a couple of weeks, and lots of free chapters going, if that interests you. I'm planning to do my first re-read along with the dissection. 8)

I'm sure once the various forum mods get wind of this, they'll be among to pimp their wares. For my part, I suggest General Discussion as a nice relaxed place to get your feet wet and get to know people. Have fun!

(Edit) I actually thought I had beaten Menolly to it- seems she is making up for greeting time lost while she was on holiday ;)

While Menolly was off the Watch for about a week a little while ago, whether she was on holiday is debatable. She worked really hard during that week.

Since returning a week ago, she has still been busy, as her son just chose which university he would attend. Our gracious concierge -- whom some have accused of only existing in a virtual world -- has been actively engaged in Real Life...and there shall be much rejoicing.

Uh, oh yeah -- Welcome to the Watch, DulcyW! We are not always a highly functional family, but we are family here.

See you in Albuquerque, if you can make it.

Wow, I am now feeling very welcome... Albuquerque would be really cool. I wonder if I could convince my husband...

And she still manages to post the first welcome in while I'm still writing- and I actually AM on holiday.

I wonder how I keep accumulating White Gold Dollars, and what would I use them for?

You accumulate WGD by posting, starting threads, and a variety of other methods. Once upon a time, we had a member (Wayfriend) who ran an ongoing series of contests (Win Wayfriend's Money) where he gave away anywhere from 500 to 10,000 WGD per contest...but Wayfriend has been on hiatus for about six months. Hopefully, he will return soon...

What are they good for? Mostly for buying User Items from the stores. Look at the items shown in at the bottom of the left side of my (and other people's) posts. Mostly those are bought with WGD, although there are also Tokens (earned through posting in the In Pursuit of Mallory game forum) and HP (earned in the Gravin Threndor RPG-and-story-game forum). Click on the Stores icon under the KevinsWatch banner at the top of the screen to see what I mean.

You'll also see the Private Messages icon up there...and you have one such message that will tell you of another way that WGD can come your way :)

DulcyW now knows how to donate, having been donated to. Will she donate in turn? Only time will tell...

DulcyW, you probably should know that there are some Watchers who have their eyes on the items in a special part of the Stores, the Aumbrie of the Clave. All the items there are priced very high and are unique one-of-a-kind pieces.

In particular, there is group who desire the White Gold Ring. Among them are Menolly, Cameraman Jenn and a few others who might prefer I not "out" them. One who was then nameless (and whom I do not now name...heh!) even awarded himself a prize of enough WGD to buy the Ring and sported it in his signature for a while...but the status quo again is in effect.

Null is none of the above...but he does crave more WGD fairly perpetually.

Sarge, not to put too fine a point on it, but your stash of WGD is not all that huge...especially compared to those of big guns like Jenn, Menolly, dAN, etc. I know you have to have lots of tokens -- you are all over Mallory (Julie must be very tolerant!) and there is not much to spend tokens on -- but you are no slouch in the regular forums. Where have all the WGD gone? Are you a secret philanthropist?

So you do!

Shame you can only display three at a time...but that collection would fill pages if you displayed them all. Guess that two Watchies and Furls Fire is as important a set of choices as one can hope for...
