The point however, I think remains the same.

I've owned my copy of LFB for 21 years. And it was given to me, second hand. It's broken and repaired. The actual physical book has as much history and sentiment attached to it as the story it contains.

Can't get that with a Kindle.

I hear you AV, loud and clear. I had SRD autograph my original copy that my Dad had given me when I was in high school and the cover was about 3/4's of the way ripped along the spine from me re-reading it. That has way more value to me emotionally than my very pretty first edition hard cover signed copy. I'll NEVER own a kindle or similar product. I like the feel of a book in my hands, turning the pages, smelling the paper and ink, it's so much a part of the experience for me. Curling up in the corner of the couch with a blanket and my dog and burying my nose in pages of print that make my imagination soar.

Yes, and those proprietary formats are nothing like pdfs.

Just sayin'.

eBooks have their uses - easy to travel with, light weight, can carry a lot of books at once.

But I do like real paper and ink books for my pleasure reading. I like to curl up on my couch with a nice book on the weekend.

That's literally the only positive I can see for it. Going away with sufficient reading material is always difficult...and when you read quickly...

I know about the reading quickly thing. I go on vacation for a few days and I have to pack several books. It gets heavy but I just can't see me trading a physical book for a kindle. It's like giving me a truffle but taking away my taste buds. I know what it should taste like but I can only feel the texture and see the truffle but I miss what it actually tastes like and smells like when I bite into it. Something essential is missing. A kindle or like product is smooth yet cold and clinical and impersonal in the hands while a book is warm and textured with hints of age, weight, individuality, all the things you feel with your fingers as you open each page to your mind, read the written word and breathe in the smells of paper processing, ink and age of the book edition. I've always been a very tactile person....

Yeah, sometimes it feels like I take more books than clothes. It's not the feel of it (in that sense) for me. I like cold and smooth...I don't actually like the texture of a book. But I do like the heft of it. And I like sitting in my study to read and looking up at the shelves of books.
