Keep at it, you've opened up an almost 2000 vote lead. :)

I FINALLY got it to work, and submitted my vote!! :D

btw, dogs pull SLEDS, not "sleighs". Just wanted to make that point because we used to "mush dogs" before we moved to Africa.

Thanks guys! I was wondering who had been voting while I'd been in bed. My competition had closed the gap a bit by the time I got up at 5.30am this morning but working on widening it again.

For everyone playing at home ;)

The competition finishes: 5am San Fran time (lol! no, I don't expect you all to be up in the middle of the night voting)
or
1pm London time
or
12.01am Aussie time (Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! OI! OI! OI!).

Again, thanks you SO much everyone who has voted. I'll seriously buy you a bevy of your choosing at the next Fest. If I don't come, I'll send the money over for Cyn to manage the bar tab! :D

Oh, and Deer: I didn't know that. I like little facts like that. Thanks. :) My son loves that picture (because it's got dogs in it). He asked yesterday if he could do a few votes for me and then I realized he was voting for the dogs! hehehehehehe. I had to laugh. Kids are great!

So I won. Well, I haven't had email confirmation or anything but I certainly finished with the highest vote.

Thank you everyone! :D Couldn't have done it without your help.

Will let you know once I'm officially the winner. :D Drinks all round!

YAY!!!! Seriously, your picture deserved the win and I hope to see it in an Australian travel book very soon. It's an incredibly intimate image set in a hugely stark setting that really catches the eye and the feeling of being in such a beautiful vast space and yet taking a moment to capture the personal moment of the vacation. If that makes any sense at all. Yes, some of the other pics were great too but yours evoked the most beautiful emotional response out of me.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

So, have we established beyond doubt that the people who win online voting things are the people who can best mobilise the people they know to vote for them?

Thanks everyone. :)

And yes, Av, you're right on that one. Mobilizing troops and also how many times you can get the troops to vote (ie: multiple voting). The truth is, I consider getting into the final 10 more of an achievement than winning since it was the Fairfax Media big-wig who chose those. And that's cool.

Winning means I'll go into the final, so that's a bonus. But what I want is the exposure. I am one of these people who wants to do something with their photography (ie: earn money). Exposure like this is priceless.

I live in a tourist town and there are lots of people who get their photographs put in frames and some shop or cafe agrees to sell them (taking a commission). Some are great, a lot are God-awful. I don't have the confidence to wander in and say, "Hey, my pics are cool. Wanna hang some up in your place?" However, being able to walk in and say, "Well, I've entered and won such-and-such" makes me feel more comfortable about pushing my work. I won because lots of people clicked but I got into the finals because my pic was good. Being able to say I *won* sounds better than "I was a finalist".

So.....that's what this is all about. Hence why I said I'll shout anyone who voted for me a drink next fest. :)

Thanks again, everyone! :D

It must have been the inspiration you took away from that painting class we watched on your bed in S.F. that gave you an eye for a photo!

Congratulations! :yourock:

Sea, you could set up a little business, selling prints of your award-winning photo. :)

That is *so* not true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was on your bed, D! Remember. In fact, if I remember correctly the night before I was in dlb's room on his bed but he wasn't as courageous as you and didn't get on the bed with me!

And yeah, Ali. I should at least look at a few of these online places where you can flog your pics (and, like, sell one every blue moon! ;))

dlb didn't not get on the bed with you because he was afraid of you. He was afraid of mrsdlb. A wise decision, imo.
