Just discovered this place

Post by wingman »

Hello all. I have been a fan of the Covenant series since I first discovered the Power That Preserves on an endcap in Harvard Square bookshop called The Coop in 1979. I saw that it was the third of three books so looked further and picked up Lord Foul's Bane. I was hooked from the start and have turned many people onto this series because it is so "painfully" different. It is tough to recommend to females considering what happens early on in the book. I usually had to tell them to just accept it because it was integral to the storyline and just trust me that it was worth continuing. I am about 3/4 through "Against All Things Ending" and am really enjoying it. I read a lot of negative feedback on it and I postponed getting into it but I think it is very good. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do on this site and look forward to the reading here.

Welcome wingman!

There will probably be a more official welcoming committee along shortly as different mods tout their forums. In the meantime take a look around. Apart from the dedicated TC forums there are forums for just about everything e.g. Mallory's and Gravin Threndor for games, Hile Troy's Think-Tank for politics, the Close for philosophy and religion, Vespers for music and so on.

Jump in and post, start new threads, comment on stuff. We're a kindly if eccentric bunch

(You could even try and find the Plains of Ra. I don't know if anyone has visited in a while.)

Hello Wingman!

Firstly, I'm female and wasn't at all put off by what happens early on. Secondly I also enjoyed AATE and don't know what all the fuss is about, in fact I liked all the books

Hello, wingman. Hope you join in.

I've been to the Coop several times. It was an awesome place to go in the pre-Amazon days, when you actually had to find books. I admit I haven't been there in an age and an age.

Yeah, What ^ he ^ said. :D

Welcome to the Watch. I thought AATE was certainly the best of the Last Chrons.

for the welcome responses. As mentioned, I love this series. I am really looking forward to going through this site and reading the commentary and analysis on all the books that has already been written. I am not so sure I'll comment that much because I think you all may have significantly more insight than myself as I just read something about the BloodGuard snapping a Cord's garote in"sexual frustration". Man, I never saw that one coming. And here I was thinking I knew a lot about this series.....Ah, to be "Humbled" is always a lesson. That sort of implies that it happens to me a lot, doesn't it? Hmmmmm.

Wingman, I thought the same when I joined this site - I could never be as clever as all these people on here. I still think the same  but I wade in now and again and no-one seems to mind if I say something stupid  Try it!

Welcome, wingman! :bestwishes:

Don't worry like that about the "Man, I never saw that one coming" things, everyone has an own view, which also changes, your opinion may be as much a reason for amazement for someone later.

And what ussusimiel and Menolly are hinting at is not some abstract talk)

Just finished AATE last night. Loved it. Looks like I'll have to spend the time waiting for TLD reviewing things here....

Sorry mate. Had I known. Send me tickets and I'll fly down and support you whenever you need it. I think of all the places in the world I'd like to see most, New Zealand might rank the highest.
