Try the Troy books, if the others are too fantasy for you.ussusimiel wrote:I read Waylander and some other Drenai books, but I don't think heroic fantasy is for me (I'd never even known there was such a sub-genre until I read Gemmell). Maybe I'm just too aware at this stage that a hero in fantasy is basically someone who kills lots of people but doesn't get killed himself/herself.
I'm reading Hamilton's Reality Dysfunction, since I just picked up the 2nd and 3rd book.
I hate the way this series ends, but the rest of it is so good...want to try again and see if it makes up for the ridiculous part.

I liked both of 'em.Farm Ur-Ted wrote:I'm reading Connie Willis' Blackout. I'm probably a little over half-way through. It's really awesome. I'm looking forward to All Clear.

Reading The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany and Crack'd Pot Trial by Steven Erikson before going on a latino literature binge.

^My favourite of the trilogy, Av.
I'm maybe halfway through Reaper's Gale. Things are heating up nicely.

So I just finished C.E. Murphy's Coyote Dreams and am kicking myself because I didn't bring the next book in the series with me to work. These are pretty good.
It's an urban fantasy series. The main character is a mechanic with the Seattle Police Department, but she's also a Cherokee shaman.
I got the first four from a friend. I think I'm gonna have to hunt up the newer ones for the Nook.

I've been reading Tyranny of the Night by Glen Cook. Not bad, once you get past the first 50 pages or so. Wayyyy too much political mumbo jumbo for me, and the editor in me cringed several times, but once he settles into the story, it's alright. I think Cook could run one hell of a GT game.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
