Well, that's sorta your industry, isn't it? In other words, they're acronyms specific to a certain niche, if you like.

Second most popular hobby apparently, next to golf, but yes, they are specific to a particular "niche". Just as some acronyms are specific to this forum, which is the point I was trying to make. :)

Actually, I've never seen many specific to this forum [well...some...KW, GT] but most of them are not.
Still, I remember when "LOL" meant "lot's of luck" and fairly entwined with the military "SOL" [shit outa luck]....I remember when "gay" was [by dictionary categories] basically "rare"...and well on its way to "archaic" and "obsolete." But it had a dual resurgence with new definitions...
Heh...I'm gonna go start an acronyms thread.

Good idea Vraith! Acronyms used on the Watch. Plenty in the Tank! :D

Specific to the Watch? POV = Point of View (used a lot) for instance.

obviously you never, ever took an english/writing/lit/crit class in any U.S. university...or even most High Schools. [or you have a memory problem? something about p's o's or v's offends you?]

Oh, and grat's Hashi cuz I don't think I said it yet.

Io..."grat's" is NOT and acronym...it is an abbreviation commonly used in the U.S. [slang, not acceptable in formal writing] for "congratulations"...

If you search for PoV on Google, it automatically includes results for Point of View. It's a standard acronym.

What is Watch specific? THOOLAH. SPOW.

None of these acronyms were used when I was at school, 50s and 60s, and of course no texting so I haven't learnt the lingo. It's a bit annoying as I can't "join in" if I don't understand what is being said. I had to write down all the Chronicle titles so I know which books are being referred to - LFB, ROTE etc. I've also written down a few of the others that have appeared - and I realise they are not all forum specific. Only one did I immediately know - IMHO - and someone else asked what that meant! If I do write the acronyms down when they appear, and look at them often enough, I will gradually remember them. My problem - I'm not expecting people to stop using them. :D

I thought it was a derogatory remark Stupid People On 'Watch, or are you saying something about us OPALites? ;)

Oh, wait, sorry, thought you were answering Iolanthe's question, not adding another one to the Watch Specific ones.

THOOLAH -- The Holy Order of Linden Avery Haters

OPAL and SPOW are similar, I think, but one is people who like Linden and the other is for the Linden agnostics. ;) Can't remember which is which offhand. I think OPAL is the fence-sitters.

Oh, and there's LA -- Linden's Army.

Uh uh. SPOW predates all the others. It's Slow Posters Of the Watch.

(Did I congratulate Hashi? Congrats Hashi. :D )

SPOW = Slow Posters On the Watch (I think)
OPAL = Opinion Pending About Linden

I learnt a lot of general acronyms when I first joined the Watch, not being particularly acronym savvy before!

EDIT: Av beat me to it!
