Just getting into the 2nd Chrond and have reached the bit where Sunder, having just been persueded to eat a treasure berry for the first time, settles down to sing while Covenant recovers from Marid's first introduction of Venom into his system. Sunder sings the song of a-Jeroth [as taught by the Riders of the Clave] in which Diassomer Mininderain
the mate of might, and Masters wife
embarks upon an illicit affair with a-Jeroth, for which crime she brings down the Master's wrath against all 'treachery in the Land'.
Question - Who is this Master? Does he equate to 'the Creator' in the distorted muthology of the Clave or is he just a 'non-figure' introduced as a foil to Foul's a-Jeroth?

'Of course - you know you have.'

It was always my supposition that Diassomer Mininderain was the Creator's mate and that a-Jeroth was Foul. Any other answer broadens the pantheon of immortals who are neither from the earth of the Land nor from Covenant's world.
Perhaps the Last Chronicles will shed more light on these entities...

I have read the Last Chrons, but things seem to have got a little hazy. When I get to them again in my final read of the entire Chrons [of which as I say I'm currently in the first book of the 2nd chrons] perhaps things will 'gel' a bit more.

Last Chrons spoiler: Spoiler
If DM = SheBane = Linden, and we think about the resurrection of TC as produced from Linden succumbing to LF's machinations/temptation, then this "illicit affair" with LF was a crime which brings the Masters' (Haruchai) wrath against all 'treachery in the Land," i.e. Linden's acts.
Curious parallels, offering at least one potential reading.
Given that all the Chronicles are now finished, I wonder how long the LC spoiler tags are going to be necessary? It has been 10 years since Runes. I think most fans would have picked them up by now, though I suppose there are a few still reading TLD.
She is both Linden and Joan mixed into one raving bane of agony.
No - she is who she is.
Z. - That was clever! [2nd post of yours back] I like that!
Last night read The Wounded Land from where the group pick up Hollian to where TC wakes to find Vain at the end of his bed in Revelstone. God I had forgotten how good this book is. You had TC in Andellain, Stonemight Woodhelven [twice], the Waynhim Rysh and TC's run, Melma na-Mhoram in, TC meeting Gibbon. Jeeez - what a rush! TWL has got to be my favorite TC book of all!

Of the TC books, I would say the whole 2nd Chron's are my favorites. Like the Star Wars nonology? novology? novemology? (soon to be, anyway), Episodes 4, 5, and 6 are probably the ones that would stick best if someone were to ever again pick up the mantle of trying to make movies...
- Woody - Linden Lover and proud of it... But I love my wife more!

Spoiler tags for the LC will always be necessary in this forum, for the sake of people only just discovering the chrons.
I get that Av, but why does the same not apply for example between Chrons 1 and 2. It's not always easy to maintain the correct sepparation now, when the main thrust of your topic does concern the first two series, but there is inevitable 'spillage' into third chrons stuff - after all this is where all of it is 'wrapped' and it there will always be a need to refer to this in any Chrons discussion.

Yeah unfortunately, many years ago we didn't know there was going to be a 3rd chrons, and since all 6 books were out, the forum was never set up with a separate 1st & 2nd chrons forum.
By the time we thought it should be done, it was already too late, and the 1st and 2nd chrons threads were hopelessly intertwined.
So we left well enough alone and only focused on splitting the last chrons.
Yes - a fait accompli, I see that. With spoiler tags etc it's still not impossible [nowhere near to be fair], but I wonder how a complete 'free for all' ranging across all three series might affect the 'dynamic' of discussions on the Chrons. In fairness the Last Chrons forum will probably eventually gravitate toward this as more and more of us [and hopefully many new members] tackle the entire Chrons in one bite. [I'm in the middle of it now; finished TOT last night and am on it to the end.]
I'd be interested in a little background in how the Watch came into being and when. Were you involved in the initial setting up Av?

Nah, I only turned up a few years later and started flooding the place.
There are better history threads and posts around, (Matrix Man's springs immediately to mind, and I think WF did a great one once) but the bare-bones and unofficial version is as follows:
In 2000, Jay set up an EZ Board forum to talk about the Chrons and a bunch of people turned up. EZ Board was what was commonly known as pop-up hell, and after a couple of years, Vain vowed to set up an ad-free board.
In 2002 he did, and that was pretty much the Watch we have today, 12 years later.
Then I owe Jay and Vain a serious debt of gratitude. The Watch does something very special over and above the communication with like-minded [well, sometimes ] Chrons fans. It makes me think.

Just an observation - as I read on the Bloodguard/Haruchai are starting to resemble in my mind the warrior monk orders of the Knights Templar et al; dedicated to the service protection of travellers, but removed and distanced by their own unwavering vision of who they are and what they are doing.
