You people are hilarious!

 Ahhh, yeah.
Also, I think it's awesome you had a trip up to visit lorin - though I know that's a bit like 'old news' on this hoppin' thread!
ali wrote: On Wednesday evening, Magickmaker and I are taking a class at the yarn store where she works. They're going to teach us how to use a drop spindle. I am hoping to be lousy at it, because the last thing I need is another yarn-related hobby.
How fun! Pretty sure every mom wants to grow up to be still want to take classes with her kids in a shared interest. Also... you amused me with your 'hoping to be lousy at it.'

ali and Ananda-
As far as selection in a yam store... I dunno... there's the purple yams from China.
I bet you can find enough species and consistencies...
Maybe it'd do best if it was selling seed yams...
Change that that; The Yam Store will DEFINITELY do better selling seed yams... the varieties matter SO much more to farmers.
Ananda wrote:I read this as the *yam* store where she works. The whole concept of a yam store was very intriguing. I remember writing haikus about yams while reading Ralph Ellison because we could tell he was a yam eating kind of man.

Hehehe! (enjoyed this line in spite of me not having prior familiarity with the Ralph Ellison reference)

And now, further back upthread - lorin!
Your aunt Dina is pretty and - apparently - kind of totally awesome.

Sarge- congrats on your success in the exercise!! awesome, man.
I thought of you awhile back when I asked a friend what her favorite animal was and she said - to my surprise - OCTOPUS!

I've had an awesome morning - took my kids to the pet shop to look at the awesome animals.
it was a selfless act for the childrens' edification entirely.
not at all for me to obsess over the adoooorrrable blue-mutation peachfaced lovebirds with slate gray heads which where super tame-looking and coming to the front of their cages. *sigh*
as I said, just for the kids.
not at all for ME to flip out over how awesome the bearded dragon lizards were... and some awesome kind of striped yelllow-and-black Texas salamander.
Okay, maybe I thought i was in Eden for a bit. *bliss* :grinlove:

Nice pet store story, Linna. Are you thinking about a new pet or just looking?

At WFC. Haven't seen Romeo and Lisa yet, but I expect it's just a matter of time. SRD's doing a reading tomorrow. I'll provide a full report. :)

Ali? What is WFC? Wild Fun-Fun Club? If so, is SRD dressed in a black vinyl outfit?

Speaking of spankings, I finally forced myself to finish the first (å fan... there are more) book.

I learned today, on topic, that two friends of mine from college, a heterosexual couple, now live in Berlin, practice bisexual polyamory, and earn a living by doing private and public BDSM, Shibari and fetishism sessions. They both quit their day jobs (very well paid at a large corporate in our area of science) and do this.

That's great!

I have had an offer or two to be paid for doing weird fetish stuffies over the years. I politely declined. Though, there was this guy with a foot fetish who wanted to give me foot massages and even offerred to pay. Paid to get a foot rub was temptiing! He wanted to do photos of my feet, too... foot fetish.... so weird!

What is that ever compared to ur-vile wedge s/m fetish?

Ali: record it!! Even lesser smartphones should handle that these days.
(The SRD reading, not ur-vile activity.)

I have absolutely no fetishes, other than switching off (even more) my social failsafe thingies when having sex, so I have not the slightest biological inkling of an idea why people would do this, paid or unpaid...

Your gift astounds me, northerly one

Mere coincidence or did you intend for the left thigh muscle to extend behind the right and connect almost perfectly in line with his didgeridoo?

Someone once told me that I would be a good Dominatrix - I didn't take it seriously at the time, but it occurs to me that it would probably be less stressful than my current job, not to mention more lucrative. I wonder if it's too late.

Have fun, Ali! Looking forward to the report.

Fetishes are strange, but I often wonder if people with fetishes recognize them as such or think it perfectly normal? Probably somewhat of both I would think...

I guess they are perfectly normal in one sense. Most of them are harmless, though not all.

Some years ago, i read an interview with a man whose fetish was a type of extreme body modification. What type, you might ask? Amputation.

This man had amputated various small parts of his body such as finger, toes and so. Then, he began to arrange 'accidents' where he'd lose a hand, a foot, a leg...

the way he spoke about it was so matter of fact and casual. He felt his body was a work in progress and that he had to get it just so. He seemed very happy and pleased with himself. If you read the exact same interview and just replaced amputation with any other hobby like baking or something, it sounded perfectly sane and reasonable. Was a really strange interview. I will try to find it after I finish making dinner. It made a slightly uncomfortable but interesting read.
Edit: I found the interview. At least I think this was the one. No time to read the whole thing now.
WARNING: If you are squeamish, do not click. You have been warned. Also, probably don't click to this from your work computer. There are pictures of the amputations.

Ananada, your characterization of, "If you read the exact same interview and just replaced amputation with any other hobby like baking or something"...
...oh dear.
Seriously, that sounds completely sad.

On the ummm... flippant side...
Yeah, Monte Python and the Onion working together couldn't make some of this stuff up.
Humans, humans...

Well, I'm mostly not planning to get a pet. :)
They can be wonderful, though. I got to own birds when I was a teenager. :)
Do you have pets?
