I was thinking Quillon. I don't remember if this is the context, but I seem to recall an exchange to the effect of...Avatar wrote:Eremis?

Barsonage: Do you truly think they could be alive?
Quillon: They have to be... (or they must be)

BINGO!

I've always liked Master Quillon. He mae a positive difference for Terisa, Geraden, and Mordant while he was around.
Your question, IrrationalSanity! Good job!

Not quite. There was a very specific reaction I'm looking for.Avatar wrote:Uh, he accepted it? (Damn, can't remember if he somehow convinced him to give the troops...or was that the Tor or the Perdon?)

You are close, but missing the one specific reaction I was looking for (you got halfway there). How did we know he "really liked" it?shadowbinding shoe wrote:I think at first he was outraged but eventually really liked the Domne's idealism and accepted his position (the crops needed all the croppers they could get). They had a feast and Joyce rode on to fame and victory.
Am I missing something?

Correctamundo! The key is not his reaction to the refusal, which was understandably anger, but his reaction to THE REASON for the refusal. It was a very strong reminder to him of what he was fighting for - protection of the ability of the people in the Cares to live free and normal lives, free from having to worry about Alend, Cadwal, or even the rule of Orison.Cord Hurn wrote:I've just now finished re-reading the AMRT chapter entitled "The Benefit Of Sons", so can answer this.
King Joyse responded to the Domne by laughing and repeating "Sheep. Sheep."
It is a lesson many would do well to remember in this country...
