Her father.
The Domne observes from Terisa's description of her father's attitude toward women that he is very like High King Festten.

You are correct.
A little knowledge is still better than no knowledge.

When the champion was translated and the resulting rubble buried Terisa and Geraden, who persuaded Master Barsonage to use the Congery to rescue them from that rubble?

I was thinking Quillon. I don't remember if this is the context, but I seem to recall an exchange to the effect of...

Barsonage: Do you truly think they could be alive?
Quillon: They have to be... (or they must be)

BINGO! :nanaparty: :D :D
I've always liked Master Quillon. He mae a positive difference for Terisa, Geraden, and Mordant while he was around.

Your question, IrrationalSanity! Good job!

OK, this is probably relatively easy...

What was King Joyce's response to the Domne's reason for refusing to give him any troops during his first war?

Uh, he accepted it? (Damn, can't remember if he somehow convinced him to give the troops...or was that the Tor or the Perdon?)

Not quite. There was a very specific reaction I'm looking for.

Haha, damn, I remembered the question as being the Tor's response, so I came to answer, (having got there) only to see it was the Domne's response.

Yeah, you've got a ways before you get to the Domne's response. :) I'll give you a hint - He tells her in person.

I think at first he was outraged but eventually really liked the Domne's idealism and accepted his position (the crops needed all the croppers they could get). They had a feast and Joyce rode on to fame and victory.

Am I missing something?

You are close, but missing the one specific reaction I was looking for (you got halfway there). How did we know he "really liked" it?

I've just now finished re-reading the AMRT chapter entitled "The Benefit Of Sons", so can answer this.

King Joyse responded to the Domne by laughing and repeating "Sheep. Sheep."

Correctamundo! The key is not his reaction to the refusal, which was understandably anger, but his reaction to THE REASON for the refusal. It was a very strong reminder to him of what he was fighting for - protection of the ability of the people in the Cares to live free and normal lives, free from having to worry about Alend, Cadwal, or even the rule of Orison.

It is a lesson many would do well to remember in this country...
