Update on birdandbear

Post by birdandbear »

Well, the general consensus seemed to be that I should at least touch base once in awhile, and say hi, rather than waiting until I have time to actually read up on all the hottest new discussions, so here goes: ;)

We've found a house! :D We've spent the last three weeks or so jumping through all kinds of hoops, to get everything in place, to actually buy it (some of those hoops, I swear are purely for the amusement of the mortgage company  ) We're in the very final stage now, so they tell us; we're just waiting on the title company to do their thing, and then we sign. It's a wonderful house, and we're getting it for a really good deal. It has plenty of room, and a quite large backyard with lots of room for the dogs, and all the kids' play stuff. However after all this time, I can't quite believe that everything is going to go smoothly till the end. It's been such a long road that I'm half convinced that the universe is planning to sabotage the endeavor at the last possible second, just to see if my head really will actually explode.....
;)

In other news,Gabe and I are also rehearsing for The Wall again - this looks like it may become an annual thing. We've revamped some aspects of the show, and added some new ones, so it looks like it'll be even cooler than last year. We're both really excited to be doing it again, it was so much fun last year. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about....
Last may my son Gabriel (8, then) and I were in a live stage production of Pink Floyd's The Wall. Backed by a live, really good PF cover band, we took the movie as a model, changed everything about it to suit a stage production, and performed it in front of an ecstatic crowd of 700 or so, turning 400 more away at the door. I played Pink's mother, Gabe played young Pink. It was one of the most flat out coolest things I've ever done. 8) :D I can't wait to do it again! :D :D
(By the way, if anyone lives in the Fort Worth area, and is free the weekend of 09/30-10/01, and would be interested in being a part of something like this, we need more actors, badly....email me at the acount listed in my profile. :) )

My poor husband is exhausted. :(
He works for the City of Fort Worth, in the IT department. Fort Worth is housing several thousand Katrina refugees, and the IT guys are responsible for providing network communications for all the emergency staff involved in caring for them, helping them locate family members, logging medical records and identification databases.....much of it is overtime. Colin's been putting in around 60 hours a week lately. He spent several hours last week setting up machines in a rec center, where he had firsthand contact with some of the unhomed. He came back to his very shaken. The children just broke his heart. He said, "I couldn't stop thinking about those kids toys, and their bikes and their Playstations.....everything they had is underwater, with corpses floating around in it. Their whole lives are just gone. And they're here sleeping on a basketball court." It's been hard for him, but he's doing important work, and I'm proud of him. :hearts:

Morgan is nearly four, and showing every inch of it. Not only is she very tall for her age, she's testing her boundaries at every step. Grrrrr. This too shall pass. :lf:
She's such a sweet little thing when she wants to be though, when she gets in a cuddly mood. Her latest thing is to ask me "Mommy, have you seen the muffin man?" A hundred times a day, and want me to sing the song back at her. :grinlove:
Those days I wish the being little years could last longer.... :goodnevil:

That's about it, folks. I swear some people actually asked me to do this. ;) If all goes well, I'm hoping that by the end of the year we'll be good and settled in our new digs, and I'll be able to get back to spending unseemly amounts of time surfing the web.

See ya soon

BIRDY! :S

Miss you lots. |G
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

Always a pleasure to see you, Birdy. Give your husband a high five from me (for what it's worth).
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. And tell Colin we're thinking of him too. Be strong. Making those kids laugh would be a great gift to them!

Hi, bnb!

Good luck on the house! During my last house purchase, a mortgage company employee called me at the eleventh hour, all frantic, and said, "We need another $400 from you!" I said, "I don't have another $400!" She said, "Okay," and hung up. The mortgage went through just fine. To this day, I have no idea what that call was all about....

Hugs to your hubby -- and hopefully Rita won't turn his work life into 80-hour weeks....

EDIT : found it.
Warmark : where abouts do you live?
Revan: You know that really posh set of flats on board
street in birmingham?
Revan: Yeah, well, I live in the dumpster next to them.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
