Kevins Watch Locations Map

Post by Menolly »

~Final Edit from Menolly~

Use the Phoogle Map in the toolbar instead.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I generated a locations map on Frapper at Kevins Watch Map (www.frappr.com/kevinswatch). Feel free to add yourself to it. By using the scroll arrows it shows the entire eastern and western habitable hemispheres, and suposedly allows those in other countries besides the US to post their location. I've only used the ZIP code method of entry though, so I don't know how well it actually works for those in other countries.

What's funny is that on my computer at home, I can add myself to the map with no problem, but nothing comes up in the space where the map is supposed to be, and even the list of member names remains blank. But it works fine from my work computer, or the ones at school or the library.

Give it a try!

If there is a map somewhere, could someone bump up the thread so I can find the link?

As far as I know, we have never had a map. I added myself to yours. :)

Cool. :D

Why not edit the topic title to just KW Map or something?

I'll add myself, we'll see how well it works for non-US dwellers. ;)

(Works just fine. Maybe this should go in The Summonsing as a sticky mods?)

I like the satelite combo type of map even better. Gives political boundaries and landforms. :) You can see all of the lovely trees covering my state. 8)

So, duchess is right, and there's never been a map? How do I edit a topic title?

I hve to wait until I get to work tomorrow to check that option out. I can generate and post to the map at home, but I can't see what it actually looks like on this computer!

I added myself, too.

Does the site only work with US maps? We have a lot of members from other parts of the world. Another forum I belong to did this with a map of the world, but it was a long time ago, and I don't remember what the site was.

Huh. I saw your name there, Avatar, but I didn't see your location.

*checks again*

Ah, I see - your part of the world shows up when I click on your name. :)

I'm in.

A tiny explanation about the picture I used: it's a structure situated on one of our bridges. The "flames" on the twin torch-like pillars represent stalks of wheat, a staple of our prairie economy.

I'm there, 'cept that Laytonsville isn't the main town in the 20879 zip code. I'm actually in Gaithersburg, a few miles west. Then again, I'm surprised they even got Laytonsville on the map. ;) :)

The satellite/hybrid view must be linked to their GoogleEarth system. (But with a lower zoom level perhaps? Over Africa at least. ;) ) Awesome though. Great idea Menolly. :D

(Edit: Yeah, allover less zoom than GoogleEarth, but slightly less zoom for Africa than NA anyway...Hey MatrixMan...I could be looking at your house. ;) )

Heh. Being able to zoom in on my own street is both cool and disturbing. It would be a dubious act for anyone to reveal their personal address on a public internet forum, so I'm not going to.

And I certainly wouldn't advise or ask you to.

Should check out GoogleEarth if you haven't already...even deeper zoom, especially in more "developed" areas.

I think "disturbing" pretty much covers it for me. It's amazing, but it's frightening. Big Brother and all that...
