All in the timing...

The first chronicles was the first true fantasy novels I read. I think that kind of gives them too much bias. Everything I read after that got compared to them, even if it was subconsciously. I've seen this affect on someone else more recently. After seeing the Fellowship of the Ring, he read the en...

Caer, Splashdown is what I have been working on for the past 8 months. :) It doesn't have to be great... I'll settle for "fun".

Just saying "Hi" again after a long hiatus. My work schedule is back to "normal" again, and hopefully I'll get to visit the boards more often again.

PS - Everyone with a PS2, go buy Splashdown : Rides Gone Wild when it comes out. :)

I was twelve. Bought it during a family vacation to New Hampshire and annoyed my mother because I spent more time reading than "vacationing". :) Funny thing is, I had to buy the entire series, and any other fantasy book I wanted to read, because our local library considered all of that &qu...

I would say definitely

Adults I have recommended the book too seem to have a harder time getting in to it. The rape scene in particular had a very big impact on me, but that might also be due to age. Thankfully it was a good impact and not a bad one.

I was 12... on family vacation when I started them. After reading those, I read the Elric series... probably explains why I am a bit warped in my views on fantasy novels. That's not exactly a gentle introduction. I tried to read Tolkein in high school and couldn't stand the first half of the first b...

I never meant to imply that it wouldn't be a suitable movie. I simply doubt it would make a SUCCESSFUL movie. If the budget was reasonable enough, it might be a profitable movie, but I would be surprised if Lord Foul's Bane turned into a "blockbuster" film. It would, however, be a very nic...

Movie-going masses

I hate to say it, but the public in general does not like to think too much when they see a movie. If you look at the more recent successful films, this is fairly evident. They want to be entertained, similar to an amusement ride, scared, made to laugh, sometimes cry (sorry ladies), or gasp in excit...

Hmmm, I had not thought about it from that angle before, but it still seems a contradiction to me. Many of the Lords and people of the Land had an inherent distrust of Covenant. Why would they so quickly take his word about Power and the search for it. It would seem rather silly to completely abando...

If I recall correctly, Foul introduced the Banes to the creation and this was why the creator cast him into the Land and inside the Arch. I'll have to dig out my books and verify, but it almost sounded as if Foul was some sort of quasi-brother to the creator. How the creator was able to cast him wit...

The visit to Kemper's Pitch would seem to bear that out CovenantJr. His description of magical creation indicated that all magic was created/practiced with flaws... perfection was not possible. By removing the ring from Covenant, it would be freed from his emotional state, and thereby become a tool ...

I would think, that since any summons has to cross between worlds, that the Creator has the power to affect them. Foul (or anyone else within the Land) is reaching through or beyond the Arch of Time to reach someone. That would allow the Creator to affect who or what that summons reaches. It also se...

Lords and their power

Caamora... I was referring to the fact that the Lords quit reaching deeper into the Wards. In fact, if I recall correctly, they quit looking for the others. It just seemed to me that, after Elena broke the Law of Death, the Lords became very timid about exploring new power or their own limits. But i...

I have no idea how old the Land is, but given the ratio I have seen used here (365 days to 1), I would think the Land is far younger than Earth. However, it all depends on how old you believe the Earth is. :)

The Haruchai without a Vow... The Haruchai would be better and worse fighters without a Vow I bet. Worse because they will now think twice about how and where they fight... not quite so eager to give up their own lives. And yet, if they fight with passion and recklessnes... in defense of something t...

Slow day at work I guess. :) Can't say I'll always be able to post this much. I'll try to explain how I perceived the Lords a bit better.... To me, it is similar to a sword laying beside you. To pick it up and kill someone at random, or even someone specific out of hatred, would be considered 'evil'...
