I had seen it before when I did searches for SRD or Thomas Covenant. I visited a few times, and read a little. I've been reading the latest books, and the world these books take place in is enormous compared to the other fantasy series' I read. It is a huge relief to know that I am not the only one who has had questions, as I am the only one in my house that reads anything other than magazines and newspapers or romance novels. I had no one to talk to about any of this, and I'm glad to finally have that. Thank you for being here.

Found Stephen Donaldson's web page and noticed the link so went for it!
Been looking for a Donaldson related forum for some time so I'm glad to have finally found one.
The fact he's gone back to writing Thomas Covenant books was the only thing that got me through my despair when the Dark Tower ended (that's incredibly sad, actually!)

Please come join us in the Stephen King forum down in The Library. The Watch is far more than just SRD's official message board. There is something for everyone!kanes_son wrote:The fact he's gone back to writing Thomas Covenant books was the only thing that got me through my despair when the Dark Tower ended (that's incredibly sad, actually!)

I googled images for Ur-viles because the image in my mind was always very vivid and I wanted to know if the picture in my mind's eye was the same as what others had envisioned. I saw an image on Elfwood (my mental image was only slightly different-- I envisioned huge flared nostrils for some reason) and it set me off to dreaming. Went to the Land, but did not notice that they had a message board (actually a link to this one) until many years later (2010). Oddly enough I only recently joined Elfwood too!

I found Kevin's Watch just the other day through SD's own website. In the interview section, there was a list of questions from you guys, and after trawling through many rather generic interviews, it was clear you guys really knew your stuff. I was impressed, so headed on over.

Yes, you are supposed to be reading a series of letters strung into words composed into prose assembled into paragraphs compartmentalized into chapters presented as books comprising a series, but you already know that.sgt.null wrote:is there a series we are supposed to be reading?
i am here for the pi.
However, you find it interesting that in LFB Chapter 22, the company are in the catacombs of Mt. Thunder, and again in AATE Chapter 7, they are there still deeper crossing the Hazard. 22/7 approximating pi.

Ah, but that doesn't tell us how you found us.lmyhcsf wrote:Started reading the series again, getting into the groove for part 3 of the Final Chron (pback). And here I am. Interesting site

Anyway, welcome to the Watch. It's well known that the Cornish are bloody odd, so you should fit in just fine.

And about finding the watch - it happened long ago, a few years ago actually. While just racking through the internet in search for anything about TCTC.
I was at first very upset and disappointed, starting the search in the russian-speaking section of the internet and finding nearly nothing.
Perhaps the translations are at fault - if anyone may be interested, I can provide a few samples translated back - like "Heartfoamy-sea-saltcraving seatraveller". Another variant of the translation seems not so evidently wrong, but is in some way even worse - apparently the translator felt free to omit or change whatever he didn't understand. The strangest thing about it is that it's still somehow possible to enjoy the books even with that.
Then, certainly, I broadened the search and was greatly rewarded) Though I just read and watched for quite some time, recently decided to join and apparently I like it here a lot

We're always glad to have another participant.
You in Russia?
I think there's a thread somewhere about the many mistranslations into other languages...hang on...
Well, this one seems to be about the French translation:
French to English translation - Turpide Rogue's Bane
There's another somewhere too...
This one maybe.
Have fun, post, join in.

Those are both about French translation. Though thank you anyway, they were fun to read
Apparently I'd better make a new thread, about the Russian one. kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=826878#826878
Ukraine actually, but there's no Ukrainian translation of TCTC, and Russian is my mother tongue, so I'd likely avoid such a thing, probably not to die from laughter. Ukrainian translators tend to translate Russian translations. It's hard to imagine those of TCTC getting even worse, but such attitude is always great help, like with the translation of LOTR. Russian for "being white" is written almost like Ukrainian for "underwear", so this led to Saruman being told he's lost his underwear.
