Strangely enough, I was taught that if you want to translate a book and not lose its subtleties, you'd have to translate it into German.

Why? Because Germans tend to make new words for every new nuance, making theirs a very rich language.

I'm very fond of the Dutch translation of Lord of the Rings. Not only because it is the first translation of LOTR ever, but mainly because the translator did a superb job. I try to read a book in its original language if I can. But I have yet to come across a translation that is equally well done. L...

How about Brian Blessed for the Tor? Good call! Not only does he have the body, but also a voice to match. As for Terisa, I can't get the image of Amy Acker or Alison Lohman out of my head. Meloni as Eremis. Great suggestion. And since I'm a big fan of "Rome" I would suggest Zuhleika Robi...

I'm afraid you're right, Ajk.. I can see me skewered by several branches or bullet-ridden by thousands of acorns, fired by an army of blood-thirsty oaks. Or just trampled upon by a sequoia. Besides, I have no quarrel with Wildwood. In fact, we could use some of his kind in the Amazon or the Indonesi...

Well, I just finished TIW. 8O is all I can say. That, and I feel like punching Caerroil Wildwood in the face. I will ABSOLUTELY be finishing the series. Way to go! :D And be sure to read the Second Chronicles as well. No spoilers from me, but reading The Wounded Land back in 1981 made my eyes (almo...

More or less the same with me. I started reading the 1st Chrons in my late teens as well (1978-79). I fell in love with the Land and its inhabitants. I probably would have sold my soul to get the Health sense of the Land-dwellers...and to get a taste of aliantha. I didn't care much for Covenant- I j...

Some of my best "goose bumb-moments" have already been mentioned. But even now I get chills quoting these: Covenant, after tasting the first aliantha in TWL: "Oh dear God," he murmered brokenly. "There's Earthpower yet." And Vain in WGW: "It is not death. It is pup...

My expectations weren't that high to begin with. I expected the series to be very much like Hercules or Xena and I guess I was right.
