Who is this?
I just finished the book, but I won't go into anything too spoiler-heavy yet. However one little mystery leapt out at me near the end, and I will ask others what they think since it won't involve any major spoiler issues. TC is holding parley with the Feroce and they tell him:"Already he [the L...

Mistakes
I'm about 2/3 through the book and twice now I've caught the same mistake. The text refers to turiya Herem touching Linden and telling her that she is being specially forged...
But that was samadhi Sheol (as Gibbon ma Mhoram) when Linden was his prisoner in Revelstone.

I found the book on the shelf at a Books a Million store yesterday, but when I tried to buy it, their register returned an error, informing the sales girl she was not allowed to sell it until Tuesday (Grrr) I just hope our bookstore gets it out this week. The local Barnes and Noble where I live is n...

For those who have read the next book, it sounds like the peril is spelled out a lot more specifically, and diverse threads are being drawn together. That's well and good. But my criticism was directed to the fact that in the 2nd Chrons we had a very clear sense of the peril almost from the start: S...

Speculation on croyel vs Ravers: There are only three Ravers while (presumably) quite a few croyel. Foul saves the Ravers for truly big jobs. Also, the Ravers are capable of independent ambitions, while we haven't seen that the croyel have such human attitudes. Finally, Linden would perceive a Raver...

In other words, in the previous Chrons I felt an organic connection between the world, its (powerful or less so) inhabitants and story. In the Last Chrons, one after another player is yanked on stage while, - to me -, their connection to the Land, its history, and its people, is often strenuous. Do...

I think he has real autism. Somehwere in the GI I think Donaldson noted that Jeremiah isn't *really* autistic, because his symptoms and the progress of his conditon do not track that of actual autism (which is not a psychological response to trauma as Jeremiah's condtiion is). that's why I used the...

How long has Joan been in the Land? We are led to think that she summoned just moments before Linden was, but maybe not? She's been catatonic for a long, long time. Was she brought over (by whom and how?) back when she first started bashing her forehead in the mental hospital? And I still think Jere...

if LF was weak without a bane, why not just go get another one to make him strong again? My sense of this is that Lord Foul is in essence a spiritual being and can only become corporeal and capable of direct action when he can tap into human (or other beings)' own Despite. On his own he's impotent. ...

It didn't help that the FR giants were somewhat bland compared to the Search in TWL There were too many of them for us to get a good fix on any of their personalities, plus they were all swordmannir, except Longwrath. In the 2nd Chrons we mainly dealt with just four Giants (Mistweave, coming in lat...

Accompanied by 'few friends, some of them unwilling'. I can't imagine that TC wouldn't go with her, but is that possible? Or does this refer to the Haruchai? Maybe Infelice or Esmer would qualify too, if they go with her. And might the Ranyhyn be less eager to follow Linden now? Another possibility...

I initially read FR on a weekend get-away, having found it at the airport book store a week early. I had to quit reading after the Mahdoubt's passing, since the scene left me morose and I was concerned worse was coming, and didn't want to be a downer when getting together with old friends later that...

But the first Chronicles stood on their own. The Breaking of the Vow was due to the Haruchai necessity for absolutes. So this throws a different light, not a new light, if you see what I mean. The backstory has been changed. I disagree. The Haruchai desire for absolutes is still with us. That hasn't...

We had just been given the information of Mahdoubt’s true name a chapter or two before. So not much time had passed between gaining this new power and using that power. This also recalls how in TWL Covenant used the Word of Command on Vain scarcely a day after he had been given it. I recall being v...
