Inconsistency?

I noticed at the bottom of page 8 of the first chapter of AATE the following text: —hold it, Covenant thought. Holed them all. For a moment, the sight of Giantshipstugged at him, pulling him down. He saw the wooden vessels of the Unhomed sunk by turiya Kinslaughterer while the Giants waited for deat...

Worm and Arch...

I think there is a timing issue here during the creation of the world which separates the two. Back in LFB Lord Tamarantha described the creation legend thus: First he built the arch of Time , so that his creation would have a place in which to be and for the keystone of that arch he forged the wild...

Earthblood affecting pre-world individuals...

I was thinking about my observation the Earthblood could not wake the worm because it existed before the world. It may just come down to the nature of the command. Direct commands vs. Foul, Covenant, Linden, the Worm are likely to fail (or the recipient can choose to ignore them). However, the comma...

Various Thoughts...

Wow, quite the thead. I'll short form my opinions/replies. Foul Being Destroyed by the Worm: If at the end of FR Linden woke the worm does that mean the world ends immediately? There is likely a period of destruction during which the world is destoryed before the worm breaks the Arch. In that case F...

Inconsistancies...

Having read the first chronicles half a dozen times or so and (admittedly the last chonicles once) I have noticed some inconsistancies between the last chronicles and the first and second. I haven't seen a thread to capture them here, if there already is - my appologies. The one I remember clearest ...

Acquiessing does not equal defeat...

This appears to be a theme in SRD's works. Brinn at the one tree, Covenant at the end of WGW. His quote only hinted that the Creator was capable of acquiessing to his own destruction where Foul wasn't. It may be that because Foul is trapped in the Arch of Time he cannot "die" so isn't capa...

Some more first Chronicles...

I don't have my book handy so check the spelling... Ravers Hearthrall (of Lord's Keep) Gravinglass (sp?) of the Rahmaderal Hirebrand of the Lilinnearal Elders of the Sword and Staff at the Loresarat If you care about subgroup organization the Warward was divided into units Eoman, etc. Griffins Drool...

The Urviles...

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Urviles vain attacked had been deliberately warped by the Sunbane by Lord Foul. The group deduced this because the Urviles were too lorewise to accidentally expose themselves to the Sunbane. Furthermore they surmised that it was as punishement for creating Vain in the...

Origin of the Croyel

I tend to go back to the early story of how Lord Foul contaminated the Creator's creation. I believe it was something like "standing at his side, throwing dross into his forge" (give or take - I don't have LFB with me). The "dross" were banes of evil power. The Illearth Stone was...

Giant's having Clingor...

I don't think there is any contradition or oversight on SRD's part with the Sereach Giant's having Clingor and the Search Era Giant's not. Remember, the Unhomed wandered a LONG time to many lands (to the Elohim and land of the Sandgorgons, but doubtless others as well). They found/traded for clingor...

The Reason Foul fought the war in the first chronicles...

I think one of his main objectives was to drive Covenant to despair. To force him to give up and willingly surrender the ring. Evidence can be seen of this by his tact when talking to Covenant on Kevin's watch in LFB and in PTP when he confronts him. In the Land and Lords Covenant had a great suppor...

The Ritual of Desecaration was more personally damaging...

It has always appeared to me that the Ritual of Desecration is more specific to the works of the invoker. All the works of the Old Lords were thrown down. Revelstone wasn't because it was crafted by Giants. Trell's ritual affected stone. I don't think the Lords did much IN the Forrests to be undone....

Another difference between the first and second chronicles..

Hi All, It has been a while and as Fatal Revenant gets closer I thought I'd check in. There are several points/distinctions I think which need to be made to answer this question: 1. The Banefire was stronger than the Illearth Stone. The Sunbane which it interacted with (I am not necessarily saying p...

So, what is your position Wayfriend?

You gave Amok's quote, but I could interpret your use of it toward either of the questions you posed. I never meant to claim that Amok wasn't compelled by Kevin to fully adhere to his design. I was speculating that the design might include some contingencies. Or, Amok was free to do as he liked as l...

Amok's Trigger

Ok, we seem to be going around and around here. One of the things I love about SRD's work is its layers of subelty and going back to it agin and again I always find something new - a new way of interpreting or looking at things. This group is particularly good for that as well. I have been looking a...

Krill and Amok

Thanks for the thanks. Some other points... The Krill didn't just "appear" when they returned with the second ward. Accessing it had NOTHING to do with the wards at all. It was the Staff of Law Elena said which unlocked doors in Revelstone which had been locked since the desecration. Amok ...

Various Thoughts

Well, its been a while since I've logged on. I have a few minutes and reading all your conjectures made me go over the whole thing in my head again. I'll just list some points I remember. It was Berek who was Seer and Prophet. This is stated by Covenant in WGW after Findail told him that it was he w...

I know it was mentioned in Runes that Linden couldn't use both but she did use them in conjunction when healing the Sunbane.

Staff and Earthblood

I don't think the staff was necessary for breaking the law of death. Actually now that I think about it I am surprised Elena could do it WHILE holding the staff. Look what it did to Drool. I do remember the three winged bird and a comment by one of the lords that the staff could NOT have done it or ...

Various comments...

Regarding the Earthblood/Staff of Law question. I'd say the Earthblood is stronger as it has control over anything which was a part of the earth's natural creation (e.g. the One Tree). I don't think it would have power over the Arch of Time as it had to be created before time existed. Futhermore, al...
