Elena and the Earthblood

Just finished an audiobook re-read of The Illearth War. Of course, Elena's decision to use the Power of Command to summon dead Kevin was about the dumbest thing she could have done. So, in her place, if you could have used the Power of Command, what would you have chosen and why? I think I would hav...

I am listening to my audiobooks of the first chronicles as a "re-read", and I just got to this part. I was thinking the same thing. NOT HELPFUL!! Of course, no disrespect to the author- at the time that's what people thought you had to do. But wouldn't he have been taking a chance of infec...

I've been re-reading the original chronicles and would love to ask some questions, but I'm always afraid my questions have already been asked and I don't know where to look. I am a bit timid about starting a new thread.

Currently I have my 16 year old daughter reading the first chronicles, she is the same age I was. I made sure she had mastered The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter first, to be sure she was ready for the language. She love Thomas Covenant, says she likes that he is so "angsty".

This won't apply to those who like "Dark and Adult", but if you like "young and Happy", you cannot beat Rick Riordan. His books are light, funny, and quick to read. He is also very accurate in his mythology. My kids got me into them and they are an absolute pleasure. (Waiting for...

The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Just finished the second book "The Wise Man's Fear". Waiting on the third. They are very good, but nothing grabs me like Covenant anymore.

I had such a great time meeting everyone. Sorry I couldn't attend the Sunday festivities but we had to go to Los Lunas to pick up 200 bales of hay. We are very tired and had to wash a ton of hay and dirt off but at the end of the day the horses and llamas are happy. I really look forward to the next...

So, when Mr. Donaldson signed my copy of The Wounded Land, I had written something inside the cover page. "Corruptio Optimi Pessima". I could not remember what it meant- The translation is "The corruption of the best is the worst of all". If anyone has his contact info let him kn...

I don't believe I said there was no Love, Hope, or Compassion. I certainly could not do what I do every day if I did not believe in those things, either in The Land or in real life. I merely lack your absolute certainty that Foul is now inextricably a part of Covenant and that his goodness will alwa...

So I'm not sure if this should be a new thread, or if it has been discussed, but I have a question. Now that Lord Foul is part of Covenant, and Covenant will never leave the land, what happens when he dies? Will he die and Foul will again be released to wreak havoc? Will he remain alive forever, kee...

Hello, I'm not really new here, but haven't been on the list in a long time. I didn't know if I was up to discussing TLC until I had finished them all, and then when I did I didn't know what to say. (I did enjoy them, though!) Anyway, I'm a veterinarian living in Albuquerque, and since I want to com...

Re: Kevins Dirt

Also I believe that TC had no 'body' in the Land to be buried becuase he was not from the Land. You're right- I never even thought of that. Covenant's dead body was in the "real" world. Linden would never ask where he was buried because she already knows. Now I feel like a complete moron!...

I just watched my first episode of the new Galactica on Monday night. I only caught a smidge of one of the prior episodes. I have a question- I know that Boltar will eventually be revealed as a major cylon conspirator, but who is this woman he is with all the time, and why can't anyone else see her?...

It does make you wonder, though, why Linden has never asked the Haruchai if they knew where Covenant was buried. Maybe finding his body could be the key to finding him, and solving the mystery of who this fellow riding up to Revelstone really is.

Right now I'm reading the collected works of Edgar Allen Poe, and on alterntate nights I'm reading the bible cover-to-cover. I think maybe they both qualify?

No offense to anyone religious- actually I'm reading the bible because it was on my bookshelf and I realized I had never read it.

I recall having to keep a dictionary close at hand to decipher some of Donaldson's more elaborate words :) It probably wasn't the best choice of books for a young person to read at the time, but at least it helped build my vocabulary :D I had my trusty dictionary by my side when I read it the first...

I had a thought about the haruchai, and I guess this might be a good place to ask- How do you think the haruchai's mission became corrupted? At the ending of WGW, Covenant gave the haruchai a mission to serve Revelstone. It was the only thing that was truly great enough to deserve their service. How...

I was in high school, about tenth grade, so I would have been about 14. The Wounded Land was a new book then, and I remember waiting impatiently for The One Tree to come out in paperback so I could buy it. (I was too poor to buy the hardcover and it was never available in the library!)

That's an interesting thought. I wonder where Kevin's dirt really came from- I guess I just assumed it was created by foul, like the sunbane.
