The actor playing Tyrion is very lucky to have just a juicy role.

I will simply mention that my Orthodox Faith is the result of personal experience and perception. It is not a scientific fact, any more than my love of my late fiancee. But (and mind you I'm theologically very liberal) "correct belief" has very little to do with your personal relationship ...

You can call my post an ad hominem attack if you like, but I was making a point ( or trying to ) about how certain ideas are presented. Rand set a tone, and she insisted upon that tone to the point where the majority of Objectivist writing by anyone during her lifetime matched it--strident, holier-t...

So far I'm quite pleased. What thrills me about adaptations are the retellings of a story and what actors bring to roles.

I'm especially interested in how Daenarys focuses upon those dragon eggs.

We face several issues in dealing with Ayn Rand's philosophy and works. One is that her premises are inherently flawed. For example, she openly states there is no such thing as a conflict of interest. Well, that is bullocks, and if you ever want to read a piece of bald faced sophistry just look up h...

My First Book!

...was just published. The Annotated Carmilla takes the text of the classic 1872 novel and explains all the references in (some might say excruciating) detail. For example--where is this place, Styria, where the story takes place? Is it real? ( Yes ) When does it take place? ( Almost certainly betwe...

Got this novel as a gift last year. Eventually got 'round to reading it and was extremely impressed. Very eerie, with startling details as well as a sense of "reality" both physical and emotional. Must admit to having a weakness for works that answer historical mysteries.

Well, Moby Dick (1956) is about a thousand times better than the original version with John Barrymore--in which Ahab gets the girl. 8O 'Nuff said. The Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart was such a successful remake no one remembers the previous versions! Ditto The Wizard of Oz . On the other hand I...

Rawedge Rim--I believe Creation has a purpose, a purpose that cannot be achieved instantly otherwise God would have done it instantly. So there is a process that must take its course, which includes the suffering in the world. But I am also convinced that our reaction to that suffering is part of t...

Certainly some things in our time are measurably better than in past times; the thing I think little noted and largely unthought of is the concept that some things could actually be worse. By way of analogy, I know that when I first returned to the States and attempted to share the idea that some t...

And again--if you claim all the really good stuff about European civilization is because of Christianity, then you've got to say all the bad stuff is because of Christianity too. Or you have to offer an actual argument, along with evidence rather than assertions backed up by circular logic (includin...

And if you're going to give Christianity credit for everything wonderful about European civilization, then you have to assign it blame for everything horrible that went with it. Genocide. Chatel slavery. Widespread child labor. Mass murder of heretics. WMDs. Rampant obesity. Serial murder. Scientifi...

I adore both films, and am glad they aren't identical. Interestingly, the film goes with two "rules" that are simply not part of legend or folklore at all. Very few vampire myth refers to someone all-but-instantly dying by the bite of a vampire. And in legend, vampires are not harmed by th...

It is only an overused word because it is an overused personal quality. My own realization of just how arrogant you are stemmed from the moment you dared (and yes, I use that word deliberately-- dared ) tell me what was going on in a conversation you were not present to hear, knew none of the partic...
