Is it OK for a 13 year old, or should I give it a couple more years? I wouldn't recommend a 13 year old reading the Gap books. Like you mentioned, wait a couple more years. The Gap books are most excellent though and without a doubt you should read them. It's a toss up for me between the Chronicles...

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. My second favourite. I disagree with WayFriend though. Stranger isn't typical of his writing, especially his earlier stuff, which tends more along the lines of good old fashioned escapist sci-fi. --A Agreed. While I genuinely didn't like Stanger, The Moon is a Harsh Mi...

I'm definitely in the camp that Foul did build it himself. I agree too that the structure does say something about it's dweller - plain and pristine. Plus towards the end when TC was turning up his power, Foul started to solidify and becomes a stately looking "person" and mentions that TC ...

Man, what are you talking about?! Of course you have to re-read them. Especially if we're talking aout many years since your first read, you will be missing too much. Ok, if you want to shorten it up, just skip The One Tree. TOT IMO was the worst book but I still will re-read it. Linden makes me wan...

Weird / Bad 1. Elena wanting to have sex with her biological father was pretty messed up to me. (ditto sunbaneglasses) 2. The One Tree Good / Yikes 3. Triock (my new favorite character) and his quest to the Unfettered One down south. Man! What a great tragic story. 4. Thomin breaking Verement 5. Le...

Scenes that you'd like to see....

You ever read a part desribing a scene or event that you think you're just not quite getting? I recently read the the part when TC & the High Lord Elena got to Melenkurion Skyweir & would have loved to actually see the range and entrance to the cave, 'cause I'm not quite 100 % sure how it lo...

Hile Troy's Murdering Madness?

I was confused and /or frustrated about this part the first time I read this book, now, again - Ruel shouted, "Warmark! Corruption attacks!" At the word Corruption, a complete lucidity came over Troy. Fear filled all his thoughts with crystalline incisiveness. At once, he perceived that th...

I am also on my second time around these books and definitely one of my favorite scenes of all time is this one - Behind him, Thomin jumped up to carry out his last duty. With one kick, the Bloodguard broke Lord Verement's back. Instantly, the Lord fell dead. Thomin's face was taut with murder as he...

Some people read the books, look at Covenant, and imagine how much better they'd do in his place. Some (like me) look at Covenant and imagine how much worse they'd do in his place. That's probably what it comes down to, how the reader fits himself into the story. I think of the fact that some poor ...

Lucky you. Several of my friends simply will not give the chronicles a try because they don't like mixing fantasy and real world settings. One friend can't get over the possibility of the Land being a dream world of the real world characters. Some people like everything cut and dry I guess. :? I ca...

Re: When did you know...?

* these days I have more patience and appreciation of the serene; when I was 17, a chapter like the Celebration of Spring seemed a bit too 'flowery' to me; upon re-reading it a week or so ago however, I was struck by the magical, complex tranquility of the Dance of the Wraiths; the air of expectanc...

Authors & Internet Forums

I just had some thoughts about authors & internet forums. Do you think that forums like these have an influence on the authors book content? The amount of information in this forum is really a wealth of ideas. It's also a place where the readers find the holes or problem areas in stories. Can yo...
